  Farm Team 2010

Are you between the ages of 16 and 25, interested in organic farming and meaningful volunteer work, and available during the months of June, July, and August this summer? Gaining Ground's Farm Team program may be just what you're looking for. Farm Team members work together on their own section of Gaining Ground's main garden on Virginia Road, under the guidance of our experienced farm crew. They make decisions about their work schedule, field preparation, planting, and harvesting, and all the produce they grow is donated to one of the food pantries or meal programs Gaining Ground serves.

What the program offers:

  • a chance to learn about agriculture while growing food for people in need

  • challenging and rewarding volunteer work outdoors through June, July, and August

  • a ton of fun with people who share your interest in farming, hunger relief, and community service
  • What the program expects from you:

  • a minimum of 60 hours of work (total) in June, July, and August, anytime the farm is open

  • willingness to work as part of a team on Farm Team projects, unless otherwise directed by the farm crew

  • commitment to Gaining Ground's mission of growing food for hunger relief

  • daily recording of hours worked in the Farm Team logbook and completion of a brief questionnaire about your experience at the end of the summer
