A Big Move for the Sudbury Community Food Pantry

For nearly 30 years, Gaining Ground and the Sudbury Community Food Pantry (SCFP) have worked together to nourish the MetroWest region. Today, that partnership is more critical than ever. “The value of fresh produce for our clients can’t be measured,” says SCFP Board member Tom McGowan.
SCFP is 100% volunteer-run, engaging more than 100 volunteers to provide fresh produce, meat, dairy, and shelf-stable items, as well as essential personal care products to residents coming from cities and towns throughout Metrowest. The pantry serves anyone in need with no geographic restrictions or pre-requisites for assistance. During the heart of the growing season, Gaining Ground donates hundreds of pounds of nutritious locally grown vegetables and fruits which go home with SCFP clients within a day or two of harvest.
For over 30 years, the pantry operated from a church basement in Sudbury. In August 2025, they celebrated a milestone move to its own permanent, larger facility at 534 Boston Post Road in Wayland. The pantry has expanded refrigeration and freezer capacity, and flexible spaces for sorting, distribution and outreach.
This expansion came just in time for the soaring demand for emergency food in 2025. In November they shared with us, “Demand is up for us by about one third. What we are seeing is unprecedented. We have room for anything that you can provide.” Gaining Ground is grateful for longstanding partners like SCFP. Together we are dedicated to nourishing the community with care and dignity, no matter the challenges. Learn more.
