As the cold season approaches, the farm begins the process of winterizing our fields and following practices to extend the growing season in order to produce more food for people experiencing food insecurity.

Join us at Gaining Ground on Thursday, October 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., for a new educational farm tour with Assistant Farm Manager Erin Espinosa dedicated to what happens on the farm as cooler weather approaches.

The tour will discuss specific growing practices and principles related to winterization and season extension—such as year-round growing in greenhouses, using cover crops, applying mulches for winter, and proper long-term food storage techniques.

This tour is free but space will be limited, so please let us know if you’d like to attend. RSVP to rsvp@gainingground.org

Gaining Ground will be accepting voluntary donations at the tour in support of the Ohketeau Cultural Center, an Indigenous cultural preservation organization in Ashfield that offers interdisciplinary education through art.

We hope you can join us!
