Seeking Flower Power and Pedal Power
Do you enjoy working with flowers?
This season, we have planted more beautiful flowers than ever. Cheerful, colorful touches around the farm, these flowers create beautiful bouquets for our recipients. Just as importantly, they bring in beneficial insects that help protect our plants from pests. They line the drive and paths leading to the volunteer pavilion. They are nestled beneath fruit trees and shrubs in perennial hedgerows amongst the produce beds. They fill a new cutting garden beside the greenhouse.
We would like to give our flowers special attention, so we have created a volunteer sign-up for gardeners interested in working in the flower beds on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Hannah Lawson, assistant farm manager, will provide guidance, then you work independently. Sign up with a friend and enjoy a morning in a beautiful space while creating happiness for so many volunteers, visitors, and those who receive our lovingly grown produce.
Do you enjoy driving?
We are seeking a handful of volunteers to deliver produce into Boston or Lowell on a substitute basis between now and late October. You need your own SUV, van or truck and generally a couple of hours midday for picking up, delivering and returning to Gaining Ground. It is a rewarding experience where you will be surrounded by aromas of fresh produce and greeted with grateful smiles. If this sounds appealing, please contact Fan Watkinson for more information.
