Inspired to Make a Meaningful Impact

As I considered joining the Board at Gaining Ground, I thought about the emotional connection I imagined my mother would have had to the farm and the mission.

My mother started her career as a fashion artist who found her ultimate “canvas” in gardening. She was always adjusting and transplanting to find the perfect location for a plant to thrive. Her guiding mantra was simple: patience. She was persistent and never gave up pursuing a good outcome.

The vibrant diversity of the crops on the farm certainly would have inspired her creativity, but I believe Gaining Ground’s story would have really captured her imagination.

  • The founding mission to grow nutritious food for the unseen members of our communities who need what most of us take for granted.
  • The deep commitment to volunteerism, especially engaging younger participants.
  • The intentional care of the land – sustainable farming practice that would have profoundly inspired her, although during her lifetime, the modern environmental movement had yet to emerge.

I believe she would have admired all the hands in the soil at Gaining Ground, literally and figuratively.

My years of service as a Board member allowed me to witness Gaining Ground’s evolution into a dynamic and impactful organization. This important work is made possible by passionate supporters who generously provide the financial fuel needed to execute the mission.

I encourage anyone motivated to make a meaningful impact on reducing local food insecurity to consider a contribution to Gaining Ground as we close out the year.

And for those of you inspired by a family member or friend, please consider taking that next step. I know Mom would have approved.
