Planned Giving: Let Your Legacy Nourish Others
By including Gaining Ground in your estate plans, you ensure that healthy, sustainably grown food continues reaching communities in need for generations to come, while preserving current assets through your lifetime.
What is Planned Giving?
Planned giving allows you to make a lasting impact through financial or estate planning strategies that align with your philanthropic goals. These gifts—whether a bequest in your will, a gift of stock, or a charitable trust—can provide significant benefits to both you and Gaining Ground.
Your Gift at Work
Your planned gift will directly support:
- Expanding access to fresh, organic food for food-insecure families, elders, and communities in need.
- Strengthening sustainable, regenerative farming practices that enrich the land and ensure its livelihood for years to come.
- Deepening community engagement through our partnering organizations and volunteer programs.
Ways to Give
Bequests
A bequest is a simple way to make a future gift without affecting your current financial situation. You can designate Gaining Ground as a beneficiary in your will or trust for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, a portion of your remaining Donor Advised Fund, or the remainder of your estate after other obligations are met. Bequests are a flexible, non-binding option, with several benefits:
- Your assets remain in your control during your lifetime for family, retirement, and other personal goals.
- You can modify your bequest if your circumstances change.
- A bequest can reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
- Your bequest can range in size and value and can be funded with almost any asset, such as cash, stocks, mutual funds, IRAs, and retirement funds.

Retirement Assets and Life Insurance
Naming Gaining Ground as a beneficiary of your retirement account (IRA, 401(k), or 403(b)) or life insurance policy is a simple, impactful way to support our mission—often without the need to update your will. These gifts may reduce taxes on your estate and ensure that your legacy continues to nourish families in need for years to come. Contact your plan administrator to designate Gaining Ground as a beneficiary.
