Free Workshop: No-Till Hand-Scale Farming

Healthy soil grows healthy crops, and we’ve seen this first-hand at Gaining Ground since retiring the rototiller in 2015.

You can learn more about the no-till practices we use to grow food for hunger relief during a free workshop next month, presented by Farm Manager Anna Kelchlin and Co-Assistant Farm Managers Kari Bender and Chrissie Edgeworth.

Note: this event is designed for farmers!

Spots are limited, so we ask that you please RSVP as early as possible.

When – 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19

Where – Gaining Ground at 341 Virginia Rd., Concord, MA 01742

Parking info – Please park near our sugar shack or in the Thoreau parking lot behind the white house. Then walk through the fence gate and down the farm road to the barn. We will meet at the pavilion.

What to expect – Workshop attendees will hear how Gaining Ground approaches the following areas on a hand scale:

  • Bed preparation
  • Soil fertility
  • Cover crops
  • Mulching
  • Season extension

We will also provide small tool demonstrations of the broadfork, greens harvester, and tilther.

Attendees are encouraged to gather afterward to enjoy light refreshments, provided by the farm!
