Sunday, July 14, 10 am–3 pm: Sign up now! Soil Health Field Day: Planting Methods for Small-Scale No-Till Farming with Farm Manager Doug Wolcik exploring the systems he has instituted to drastically increase production and also with Daniel Mays of Frith Farm, an innovative, no-till commercial farm in Maine. The farmers will offer observations and demonstrations of equipment and methods of cover crop termination, mulching, and planting in a reduced-till context.

Wednesday, July 31, 4–6 pm: Join the farm tour for Eastern Massachusetts Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (eMass CRAFT). Gaining Ground farm staff will lead a farm tour and discussion about pest management strategies useful to apprentices as well as new and experienced farmers and any others interested in growing produce.

Saturday, Sept 14, 10 am–2 pm: Visit Gaining Ground’s interactive tent at the Concord Ag Day Farmers’ Market on Main Street in Concord center.

Sunday, Sept. 15, 3–5 pm: Gather together at Gaining Ground for an afternoon Community Harvest Celebration. Listen to Southern Rail, with its high energy bluegrass music with sparkling banjo, guitar, mandolin and bass, played by several RIBA Bluegrass Hall of Famers. Enjoy our mini farmer’s market by purchasing local beer, wine, sandwiches, sweets, breads, flowers and pumpkins. Participate in cider making, children’s art projects and games, treasure hunt and farm tour. Please sign up.

Sunday, Oct. 6: Support our bike team riding in the Ride for Food sponsored by Three Squares New England. You can ride or make donations to help us raise funds to increase our farm’s production and feed more people. (see related blog)

July through September: Volunteer at Gaining Ground and add a stamp to your Concord Farms Passport book, available at Gaining Ground and other farm stands. Collect seven stamps from over a dozen Concord farms to enter a drawing for $50 in Concord Ag Bucks at the Stone Soup Dinner on Sept. 28. Support local farms and eat healthy food!
