Cultivating Joy with Trinity Episcopal Church

Can mulching be a form of ministry? Yes, according to the Outreach Committee at Trinity Episcopal Church, a Concord-based parish with a long history of philanthropic support for hunger relief efforts— including the production of fresh, healthy food at Gaining Ground.

Sowing Seeds of Community: Read for Seeds

For more than 27 years, local elementary and middle school students have raised money for Gaining Ground while strengthening their literacy skills, through a springtime read-a-thon called Read for Seeds.

From Headshots to Harvest: Cardinal Health, Mansfield Gets Creative with Fundraising

With skill, care, and hard work, small seeds give rise to abundance.  At Gaining Ground, that lesson is underscored each day of each season—and we can’t help but recognize the parallels when we witness metaphorical seeds of community engagement flourish into deeper involvement with our hunger relief mission.  That’s what happened with our friends at […]

Give Local: The Community Foundation for MetroWest

As we promote food security through local, sustainable agriculture, we celebrate the local, sustainable philanthropy that makes our efforts possible—like generous investments from The Community Foundation for MetroWest, which launched almost 30 years ago to change lives in the region.  “Back then, there were many philanthropic efforts in Greater Boston but people seemed blissfully unaware […]

Hidden Epidemic Now in Plain Sight

The data came in, and it was sobering.   This past summer, we needed to prepare for a tripling in the number of people participating in Food for Families, our free farmers market. While shocking, the numbers weren’t surprising. We saw this increased need across the board from all our partner agencies, and news reports indicated […]

Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Gaining Ground. We work together, in community, to grow nutritious and delicious produce for our community. Our community is strengthened by our shared commitment to sustainability, generosity, and equitable access to healthy food.   We are missing many in our community this growing season as […]

Seeds of Compassion, Hope, and Joy

July is a time of bounty at the Gaining Ground farm. Tiny seeds planted in the cool days of early spring have turned into lettuce heads the size of dinner plates and green pea tendrils that tower above our heads.  There are other seeds, planted throughout the whole year, that also blossom into abundance on the […]

From One Humble Seed

For anyone curious about the true impact of our Read for Seeds program, consider this: Last year, the farm crew planted about two grams of tomato seeds. Those yielded about 850 tomato plants. With sunshine and water in the right combination, plus the necessary TLC from our farm crew and volunteers, those plants produced about […]
